I start there, but I also google cars that I'm interested in, and I read the auto review sections in the Sunday papers. My last conversation with Scott Shields was about cars. He was explaining the in's ond out's of leasing to me.Bob Bohnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17727853354188545192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5463472772679876402.post-41559239708682549112011-09-06T11:43:42.758-04:002011-09-06T11:43:42.758-04:00Bob, I'm all about the love. It's better to be lucky than smart...think Joe Biden's career path.
Our new, used Ford was built in Flat Rock, Michigan.

Steve, our family car-buying style is pretty similiar to yours. I do enjoy reading the car magazines, but it's mostly to salivate over vehicles I can't afford.jakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15814885352848691045noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5463472772679876402.post-53619048988513293062011-09-06T08:21:46.769-04:002011-09-06T08:21:46.769-04:00I'm intrigued by the whole Saturn SUV talk. Jake/Bob - where do you two do your auto research?

I refuse to buy anything high-end when it comes to cars - I usually find a pre-owned 1-2 years old, haggle for the sale and drive it into the ground.steve mcdonaldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06475435322052587508noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5463472772679876402.post-71755428270018016982011-09-05T16:06:28.520-04:002011-09-05T16:06:28.520-04:00You had to say "dumb luck" didn't yo...You had to say "dumb luck" didn't you. You couldn't just say "you were lucky" I'm really not feeling the love here Jake. Truth of the matter is, I had my mind made up to buy American at the time, and I was buying new. The dealer told me the 4 was a dog, so I drove, and yes, I researched the six. The rest of my car was made in Springhill Tenn. But I do see your point. Kind of like when McCain picked Palin. He didn't take the time to figure out what he was getting.

Just for the fun of it, what model did you buy, and how much of it was made in the U.S.?Bob Bohnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17727853354188545192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5463472772679876402.post-48092528687524440772011-09-05T08:03:40.549-04:002011-09-05T08:03:40.549-04:00Solis corrected -- thanks.

If you bought it by dumb luck, then you are very fortunate.

Whatever personal vehicle we buy with our hard-earned personal funds is our own business. Nobody can decide how to spend our money better than we can. That is the freedom that makes America great.

But when the Labor Secretary, the government official with the singular responsibility for American jobs, takes our taxpayer money to purchase a work vehicle, and uses that vehicle to make a political statement, is it too much to ask that the statement be accurate?

Bob, it is a question of competence. A person in the position of Labor Secretary can't get this wrong. The Obama administration is all about symbolism over substance, and after 2 1/2 years and no results, that superficial governing gets tiresome.jakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15814885352848691045noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5463472772679876402.post-85394800892539649512011-09-04T18:52:42.529-04:002011-09-04T18:52:42.529-04:00Good for you. Problem is, I thought I was doing the right thing by buying an American car. Turns out the engine was built by Honda. Still, probably the best car I've ever owned. You write "Soltis (sic) said she was inspired to purchase the Equinox by the unionized American auto workers and "the pride they take making our automobiles here in America" I don't doubt that her attempt to buy American was sincere. Some of the Equinox engines are American made. Do you know what engine she has in her Equinox? What model Ford did you buy? Is it 100% built in the US? Maybe this isn't as lame as it appears to be. And if I remember right, previous administrations have purchased busses from the same Canadian company. Just saying.Bob Bohnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17727853354188545192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5463472772679876402.post-76434643934263631272011-09-04T10:28:43.658-04:002011-09-04T10:28:43.658-04:00Yes, Bob, it is incredibly lame leadership by the ...Yes, Bob, it is incredibly lame leadership by the Labor Secretary, Hilda Soltis.

That's not the worst of it. Today she goes on the cable news shows and offers this clueless analysis of the 9.1% unemployment rate and the report of zero job growth in August, "I do feel like we're going in the right direction..."

Not that our family car is anyway comparable to the Labor Secretary's official work vehicle, but we just purchased a year-old Ford.jakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15814885352848691045noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5463472772679876402.post-65233548678918235342011-09-03T20:45:10.313-04:002011-09-03T20:45:10.313-04:00That is pretty lame.
