Joe Kelly is Dead

Havertown Republican Joe Kelly, he of the wonderful singing voice and ever-changing political alliances, has died.

He made a lot of enemies over the course of his political career but he maintained just as many good friends. One of those friends tells me he was one of the few if not the only pols in Delaware County history to serve county council for 10 years.

The last few years were a tough go for Joe. But whenever I talked to him, he always maintained that Irish sense of humor and he never lost that twinkle in his eye. R.I.P.

Joe Kelly,so much in the name.Joe was a working class hero.Something his detractors, and leftist eliteists always failed to see.Nor never failed to embrace. An Army vet, father, leader, confessor, politican, and working person, yes all of this was Kelly. He believed all politics was local,it was where he came and went back to again and again.I only met him once, but he reminded me of another Irish pol,Tip O Neill, whom I also met."All politics is Local"It will be interesting to see who on the horizon, with no letters behind his name, sometimes no organization to back him, can rise to
the political heights, make the unselfish sacrifices of time and family,to give back to his neighbors, while suffering the slings and arrows of righous indigination. Joe I only met yea once, but youll be missed a lifetime.RIP,
