Our print column on Obama's Sock-It-To-The-Oil-Companies ad is up.
He's heading over to Strath Haven High School today. Spencerblog daughter, a freshman, was the first to inform us of this. The candidate will only be meeting with seniors at the school, she says, and it's "not fair." The audacity of youth.
This budding voter is pro-choice, pro-soldier, pro-cheerleading but doesn't believe, for instance, that alcoholism is a "disease." She's looking more and more like a South Park Independent.
Incidentally, Spencerblog has learned that Strath Haven students call the information sheets they are sent home with "proofs" because they "prove" what the students are telling their parents about what is going on at school.
When Spencerblog was in school, he vaguely remembers proofs having something to do with geometry. Times change.
I take offense to your comment that alcholism is not a disease. You may want to check your facts on that. It is one of the only cureable fatal diseases. Try visiting a rehab and watch as everyone raises their hands to the question of whether or not they have a family member who is also an alcholic. It is hereditary. Some people may overcome the disease by not ever really being interested in alcohol - but boy, those that discover it are down a road to destruction. Check your facts please.

ReplyDeleteSome SHHS students didn't have to arrive at school today until 10:35. But when we arrived, both driveways were barricaded by police. That's it - don't let 'em in!!
ReplyDeleteThey shouldn't let Lib candidates anywhere near high schools. Who invited him? Are they going to host McCain as well to offer the kids some balance? Maybe the Grand Wizard too?
ReplyDeleteAnd alcoholism is NOT a disease, Anon. The medical community lobbied long and hard to get people’s habits and poor personal choices designated as “diseases”, when they clearly are not, just so they could get paid to treat these “diseases”.
ReplyDeleteAlcoholism? Gambling addiction? Gimme a break. Those aren’t diseases; they’re just strong desires of weak people.
Not too many true diseases can be cured by simply saying No and making another choice. The easiest way to determine if something is truly a “disease” is to apply the Deserted Island Principle…

ReplyDeleteSHHS would have welcomed a visit from McCain, Clinton, or any other major candidate. The Obama campaign approached the school district first, so they got in. I suspect they'd also welcome the others if they want to come. This is nothing new - WSSD hosted a town meeting for Arlen Specter and Tom Gannon (remember him?) several years ago.

ReplyDeleteMy understanding, from what I've heard from my father (a WSSD school board director) is that the WSSD was the only school district in the Delaware County (which is apparently heavily conservative) to welcome Obama.
Understandable, as the Swarthmore section of the school district is insanely liberal, and chock full of Obama fans. I should know, being a Swarthmoron myself (but still undecided on which candidate I prefer). :)
Also (same anon as above here), I remember Arlen Spector and Tom Gannon's visits! That's when I was in high school myself, wow.

ReplyDeleteObviously WSSD asked Obama to come as almost the entire board is made up of Swarthmore professors. They can't handle a school budget, let alone account for where money is spent in an accounting system where money is allocated to certain areas. When you want to spend more than what is allocated to an area, you have to document where the money is coming from. Yet, they STILL can't figure it out.
I guess that's what you get with super libs.
