Don't Trust Anyone Over 30

A college freshman offers advice to the GOP on how to compete for the youth vote. It's pretty good advice.

Money Q:

"Also, the Republican Party needs to explain that my generation is paying into a broken entitlement system, our borders are broken, and radical Islam is still growing in the dark corners of the world. Al Gore and the Democrats have teenagers convinced the seas are going to rise and flood New York City, but the Republican Party can’t convince us that we’re going to be bankrupt in 50 years?"

Yeah, where's the Leonardo DiCaprio of the entitlement crisis?

  1. The Republican Party needs to explain to the new generation how the anti-gay, anti-minority, anti-civil-rights, anti-women's-rights philosophy fits into their vision for the future.

    (Hint: It doesn't.)

  2. Hey- now this is pretty funny. The writer says "We don't have to dumb down our agenda" and then goes on to say "To win the youth conservatism needs to become sexy again" Oh, so thats what Sarah Palin winking at the camera was all about! I get it. Maybe the writer can explain to his classmates why they will have to pay for the invasion, occupation and rebuilding of Iraq. Or maybe he can explain why the NSA says that during the past 8 yrs the Muslim extremist movement has grown by leaps and bounds. Or how we went from the financial stability of the Clinton administration to the current crisis. Now thats sexy!

  3. What the Repubs have to do to win over the youth vote is pretty simple really. All they have to do is stop taking the high road, keep it simple, dumb down their message and learn to lie like the LibDems regularly do, is all. It worked for them. And we’ve seen what the high road and playing by the rules has gotten the GOP. Everyone may as well play by the same lack of integrity and rules.

  4. If that's the GOP's idea of "sexy", then we need to respond with "Just say No"

  5. financial stability of the clinton era = 1) Peace dividend at the expense of the military and (say it with me) 2) TECH BUBBLE!!! I think you could throw John Street into the presidency in the 1990s and enjoy financial stability.

  6. most of the youth vote doesn't care about entitlements. Honestly, their focus is on the short term future as opposed to long term. IMHO, entitlements become an issue with 30+, if that.

  7. Steve - Our military is now in worse shape than it ever was during the Clinton administration.
Every military expert you talk to will tell you that its stretched thin, almost to the breaking point.

  8. Umm, that would be because we've actually been using our military to fight two wars. While Willie underminded it just because he's an anti-military Lib ...and we've been paying the price for Willie's irresponsble inaction.

Obama is another that is anti-military. Well, really, Libs like him are only anti- U.S. Military and us being a world power. Now Barney Frank says "We don't need all thoseth thilly fanthy weaponths" with a flip of his limp wrist.
