The trial of alleged hit and run killer Lemuel Payne has been set.
In August 16-year-old Faith Sinclair was hit and killed trying to cross Chester Pike in Sharon Hill.
The investigation led authorities to Payne. The most damning evidence against him are admissions he allegedly made to his boss about being in trouble for being involved in the accident. Plus his car was damaged and he appeared to be trying to hide it from authorities.
All that said, there is no reason to believe what happened was not an accident.
That he fled the seen has led many to speculate that Payne may have been under the influence at the time. The accident occured at 10:15 p.m. on a Sunday night. But authorities have no proof of that.
If found guilty Payne faces a mandatory minimum of a year behind bars but it could be a little more. That may not seem like much but it's about right for an accident after which he made a number of panicky and bad decisions.
