Mr. Fiscally Responsible

So NOW Obama is lecturing Democrats to watch their spending. The biggest herd of horses in the history of the world has left the barn and now it's time to shut the door?

Right.

Obama now claims to want a "pay as you go" government. For every dollar of spending there must be a corresponding $1 spending cut or, hold on to your wallets, a tax hike.

Which is to say, that tax cut 95 percent of us were supposed to get, yeah, well, we can pretty much forget about it.

The Democrats' stimulus isn't stimulating and is being spent on bankrupt car companies, social programs and to bail out states that were wildly irresponsible with their own spending in flush times. Still Obama wants to pretend that he is The One who is being fiscally responsible.

Why not? The suckers have bought what he's been selling so far. But one day soon his own audacity will catch up with him. The Washington press corps won't moon over him forever. And when they quit, and when they start seeing him for the political charlatan that he is, it isn't going to be pretty.

There are already signs that the free-fall left to us by Bush is slowing down and stabilizing. Of all this debt/spending you are complaining about, a lot of it hasn't even been spent yet. About 10 of the big banks are going to be repaying back TARP loans (with interest!!).

The rate of job loss has slowed. Jobs creation always lags the economic recovery. However, there are indications that the recession may end this year, and we'll have positive job growth in 2010.

I hope that if/when Obama's plans recover the economy, you will write as many articles praising Obama as you have spend trashing his policies.

I inadvertantly deleted this comment from /mr.

I suppose the $5T increase in the government debt foisted on the
country by W and his gang is all ancient history meant to be forgotten
by the mouth breathers like Spencer...

I will happily admit some conservatives didn't make as big a stink about government spending under Bush as they should have.

That said, is "Look, they did it too," really the best defense of the explosion of spending and debt Obama and the Democrats are "foisting" on the country?

As for the insult, the term "mouth breather" typically refers to a mentally handicapped person. Some of them breath out of their mouths because they have constricted air passages due to a specific genetic deformity. I know people who have this disability so I try to resist using such terms to insult others.

I would appreciate it if you did too, Matt.

Why do the defenders of the cult of Obama so quickly devolve to inappropriate name-calling?
Perhaps they too are beginning to see that the emperor has no clothes.

"Look they did it too" isn't being used as a defense. It IS being used as an indictment of the critics that are being hypocrites.

There's a lot of sinners with glass houses tossing stones.

Certainly didn't mean it other than as a pejorative to describe those that blindly and unthinkingly have adopted the completely fallacious notion that the Obama adminsitration in 5 months has destroyed the economy, upset the careful and disciplined fiscally responsible approach that the Republican administration undertook for the past eight years. I certainly apologize if the term was construed in any other fashion.

Anon-diano and all the worshipers at the altar of Obama should remember the words of their long-ago celebrity icon -- JFK.
He said, "Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future."
