"Going Muslim"
Tunku Varadarajan coins a new phrase to describe a Muslim seemingly assimulated to this country and Western values who snap.
The difference between "going postal," in the conventional sense, and "going Muslim," in the sense that I suggest, is that there would not necessarily be a psychological "snapping" point in the case of the imminently violent Muslim; instead, there could be a calculated discarding of camouflage--the camouflage of integration--in an act of revelatory catharsis.Read it all.
In spite of suggestions by some who know him that he had a history of "harassment" as a Muslim in the army, Maj. Hasan did not "snap" in the "postal" manner. He gave away his possessions on the morning of his day of murder. He even gave away--to a neighbor--a packet of frozen broccoli that he did not wish to see go to waste, even as he mapped in his mind the laying waste of lives at Fort Hood. His was a meticulous, even punctilious "departure."

How about if we coin the phrase: "Going Racist" for trying to paint the Muslim community for the actions of one disturbed individual.
I don't recall a coining of "Going White" or "Going Republican" or "Going Veteran" after McVeigh's Oklahoma City bombing.
The kids at Columbine weren't Muslim. They were trying to imitate McVeigh. How about "Going Redneck"?
Or how about "Going Right" for Ted Kaczynski, who was opposed to modern "Leftism"?
I guess the best is "Going Palin".
Quitting before you finish your job. Taking the low road. Fracturing the Republican party.
Or how about "Going A Nonymous." For those who make up blogger histories to hide their identities so they can post on blogs on which they say they're "done with."
Gil/A Non - You forgot to mention Jim Jones and David Koresh. If Going Muslim could be considered offensive, I'd like to suggest we refer to these actions as "Going Religious" It has more of a big tent feel to it.
How about a tribute to one-term, tax and spend Democrats? We'll call it "Going Carter".
How about a tribute to the unwarranted invasion of sovereign nations? We'll call it going Bush.
Bob,
"Going Bush" is too vague. It could also mean ruining the economy, or torturing or shredding the Constitution or choking on a pretzel.
Or how about a tribute to VP's who shoot their friends in the face "Going Cheney" Or Presidents with memory problems (Iran Contra)"Going Reagan". Your turn.
You guys sound like you're "going Japanese."
I really think so
We could identify a liberal blogging orgy as "Going Bob-ANon".
Bob-
With all their obstructionism and their hysteria about everything, the GOP will be "Going Down".
I thought it was the female Aries putting out for a burger that was going down.
Jake - Im still waiting for an answer to the Collins blog. Wimping out on a post "going Jake"
