Tough Love?
UPDATE: (by Spencerblog) Here's a video of the scene.
It happened at UC Davis. From what I read, the protesters were warned numerous times to move and they refused. They locked arms and actually wanted to be arrested. Pepper spray is often used in riot and crowd control. It allows police to more easily restrain subjects and make arrests. It isn't pretty, but neither are obnoxious protesters when the disobey lawful orders to disperse. In this case, it appears, the protesters were requiring police to use force against them. Going the pepper spray route, is certainly better, less violent, more effective than billyclubs.

It's ugly. This kind of force should only be used when the police are confronted with violence. I don't believe that was the case.
We agree again!! Twice in the same year!! Seems just a wee bit cruel! I was hoping one of the kids mother would intervene and grab the cop by the ear and walk him away! LOL
Yes Danny, we agree. But I would ask you to be careful with your posts. You have posted several negative portrayals of the protests. Post's that could influence public opinion and create sympathy for the agressive actions of the police.
Bob, You can be a little thin skinned. I do not believe in the Occupy cause. I do believe every citizen has the right to protest and not be treated nasty and unfairly by the tiny bureaucrats and their own little personal jackbooted thugs.
Uhoh, I said jackbooted.
I mean the cops in Florida rolled out an armored personnel carrier yesterday. I didn't post that picture but maybe I should!
Yea , but I don't take it personally. I'm still looking forward to having another drink with you, Jake and Gill. Maybe after Thanksgiving.
Drinks sound good.
We should shoot for a round table.

"Faculty calls for chancellor's resignation after video of officer pepper spraying protesters surfaces"
The chancellor of the University of California, Davis described the video images as "chilling" and said she was forming a task force to investigate even as a faculty group called for her resignation because of the incident Friday.
"The use of the pepper spray as shown on the video is chilling to us all and raises many questions about how best to handle situations like this," Chancellor Linda Katehi said in a message posted on the school's web site on Saturday.
Looks like I know police brutality when I see it!!
"Two University of California, Davis police officers involved in the pepper spraying of seated protesters were placed on administrative leave Sunday, as the school's chancellor accelerated an investigation of the incident and made plans to meet with protesters amid calls for her resignation."
Maybe since I have taken many, many deadly force and passive force classes, I know brutality as obvious as this when I see it.
Danny,
You're going to let a college administrator be your authority on what constitutes police brutality?
Gee whiz.
I'm going to go down fighting. That is more my style!!
