More "not so funny Fridays" Why no cartoons about Romneys vist to England? Plenty of humor to be found there, no? How about some cartoons about all of the money being pissed away on new Pa. voter laws designed to protect us against people who don't vote Republican? Good editorial in todays Times. All Spencerblog fans should be sure to read it.
Danny - I thought you were a constitutionalist and a fiscal conservative. Given the fact that lawyers for the state of Pa. admitted that there has never been a case of in-person voter fraud reported in Pa., and the fact that Turzai acknowledged what most of us know to be true, that this law was implemented to "allow Romney to win", I'm surprised at your reply. Well, not really. This your idea of America. A country where we change voting laws for the sole purpose of denying certain segments of society their constitutional right to vote. I've worked on voter regtration drives. I've registered both Democrats and Republicans. The percentage of people that vote in this country is pathetic. Legislation to discourage and supress that vote is nothing less than un-American.
I am truly conservative. But I acknowledge modern life also. When I go to buy a gun, a right protected by the Bill of Rights, I must submit a valid ID, then get it checked by the PSP or FBI. It has been that way since I was born. When I buy booze, or when I did buy booze, I was forced to prove I was 21, LCB cards in my day, now PA drivers license or ID card. That is the world we have been brought up in. SOOOOOO, as I have no issue with these rights having gateways of protection I have NONE against requesting people who vote to have the same. This is 2012, and I truly do not believe that 100,000 people in PA have no ID. I am OK with spending the money to allow them to get one FREE. I think of it as charity!
Danny - You're going to compare buying guns and booze with voting? Give me a brake. That has to be the lamest argument for a voter ID that I've ever heard.
I want all God given Rights to have the same legal criteria, Bob. You have the Right to drink, 21st amendment, the State can ID to make sure you are of age. You have the Right to bear arms, and the state can check ID on you.
Remove these barriers and I will remove my voter ID issue from ID needs.
The classic was that crook Holder speaking before the NAACP. Tough act to follow Mitt's inspiring speech, but he was pandering with his opposition to voter ID laws.
What made it a classic was that Holder and everyone else had to show ID to get into the convention
Danny - Jake's afraid to post under his own name. Now you want him to show photo ID before exercising his right to free speech? There's a reason for asking for ID when purchasing a gun. Crimes are comitted with guns. Theres a reason for asking for ID when purchasing booze. It's to prevent under age drinking. But to understand that takes common sense. How may cases of voter ID have been reported or prosecuted in the state of Pa. Danny?
Danny, When you figure out the answer to that last question, find out the number of reported gun crimes in Pa. just this past year, and then find out the number of arrests for underage drinking in Pa. just this past year. Then compare the three, and tell me if you still don't see a difference.
Steve - The issue is why it's being done now. What is the motive? This is a time when the state is slashing funding for education. Crying poor mouth. And yet we have the money to create the a special "department of state voter ID" to address the issue of voter fraud which the state's own attorney admits doesn't exist? This makes sense to you? And then they have to pay to advertise. And then they have to pay for the cards. Did you read yesterdays editorial? Did you read todays article on page 10? Steve, if this is an attempt by Republicans to prevent certain segments of society from voting, would you still be in agreement with it?
Zero Voter ID crimes on the books. How about Voter Registration crime? Plenty. Let's not split hairs, there are many cases across the United States where voter fraud has been taken to a entirely new level. Like almost 70% of the population, I want them to be able to identify themselves when they come and vote only once. I want them to age verify, and I also think that there is danger equal to that of a gun in enabling people to not have ID proof and still vote. We might get less criminals elected. The money for voter ID is not Solyndra or GM type money here, and it is a once and done transition. I applaud the State for passing such a common sense law. (Remember all the Iraqi citizens with their indelible purple painted finger. This is the same thing, keeping it honest.
Isn't it great to hear the liberals whine against a law for a change? Most times they want more regulations and more government interference. But now when a law makes sense and protects the legitimacy of real voters, they have a tantrum.
I worked the polls in the primaries when voter ID's were given a trial run. No problem at all and most people were grateful that we were checking.
Danny - This is a state issue. So lets not split hairs. Pennsylvania officials have conceded that they have no evidence of prior in-person voter fraud, or even any reason to believe that such crimes would occur with more frequency if a voter ID law wasn't in effect. I assume that your statement about voter registration crime is a reference to Acorn. Here are the facts. ACORN employees have been investigated multiple times for voter registration fraud, and some ACORN workers were convicted of submitting false voter registration forms in 2005, 2006 and 2007. But ALL these have involved ACORN workers falsifying forms to get paid for work they didn't perform, not engaging in a plot to permit illegal voting. Making up names was easier than going out and signing up real voters, so some of them did that. There is no evidence of busloads of fake voters or any kind of plot to get fake voters to the polls. Just inattentive management and lazy people cutting corners. The voter ID law doesn't even address this issue.
I do not agree with you at all, Bob. There are stipulations that are in place that will not stop anyone from voting. Look at the law, maybe read it before touting the liberal BS talking points. Anyone without proof of ID can still vote. Once their vote is validated, it will count. If they can not prove where they live, or when they were born there is a process to follow!
NO ONE is stopping them from voting, we are just asking them to follow guidelines to assure they are voting, first in the right spot and secondly, only once.
Dead people vote, 105% of a voting district voted in Philly, dogs vote for God's sake. Why would you be against a fair answer to possible voter fraud.
Because you say no one has been prosecuted does not mean it has not occurred! If a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it, does it make a sound?
And another thing, no one is asking them "who" they are voting for. Are you trying to say their are no poor Republicans? So if all the poor Democrats changed their registration, they would somehow be richer? Hmmmmm, maybe that makes sense.....
Danny - Maybe we should stick with your first idea about making everything consistent. Everyone is allowed one just vote, so everyone should be allowed just one gun. How's that work for you? But hey, I agree with the Times editorial 100%. Like it or not this has nothing to do with protecting the vote and everything to do with manipulating the vote. Don't believe me? Ask Turzai.
God Bob, you can truly be a putz sometimes. when I vote, I usually vote for more than one person, I vote for many people. So when I go to my authorized FFL dealer I buy more than one weapon. Consistent rules would be Voting, Gun purchases, Drinking, and registered to write??? I am, you are, right? All I know, is this law is needed and should have always been in place. I like it, I respect it and I do not want any ones vote held back. I think the law allows for every option and spends money to assure a safe and fair transition for all. I have an ID, I have a passport, I have multiple Gun Licenses, so I am good to go for November. I have no problem with helping others get educated to gaining their needed ID. Have them reach out to me.
Steve, if this is an attempt by Republicans to prevent certain segments of society from voting, would you still be in agreement with it?
-you mean those who votes can be stolen? Give it up, Bob, this one makes too much sense. Again, if it goes down, can you let me know where and when you vote so I can beat you there by an hour?
Steve - Show me one instance on record of someone trying to steal votes by passing themself off as someone else while voting in Pa. It's total BS for the state to be spending money we don't have, inventing a new special Dept. of voter ID, the advertising involved, the photo's and now the court costs. If you lived paycheck to paycheck, and didn't own any pets, would you go out and purchase veterinary insurance? I believe your smart enough to know the real reason for this. You just refuse to admit it.
Bob, I'm shocked. A new PA department means more public sector parasites. How can you be against that?
Speaking of funny Fridays (now Saturday), did you see where the US Senate cafeteria workers rejected the SEIU? Yes, the Democrat-led Senate that hasn't offered a budget in 3 years.
Could it be that these hard-working ordinary folks see the arrogance and incompetence all day long, and rejected the SEIU because they knew their union dues would be diverted to support these liberal nitwits?
Hypocrites are alive and well on Spencerblog. They bitch about the increasing size of government and wasteful spending, but they're ok with pissing away tax dollars on a program that will acomplish absolutely NOTHING! Tell me Jake, do you use your real name at the polls, or do you vote under an alias too?
There's nothing hypocritical about this one Bob. Yes, I'm big on limited government and spending, but protecting my right to vote should be an absolute necessity. It's one of our greatest rights, and it should be as accurate as possible through necessary means via verifying ID.
Steve - If voting fraud was an issue, if there were just 5 or 10 cases in this state, I'd agree with you. But it's not. Either you've bought into this fear mongering by the Republicans or your in denial. We all know that in this country, lack of voter participation is the real issue. If we want to spend money on elections, we should start there. And I think the truth was revealed when Turzai said the passing of the voter ID law would get Romney elected.
Wow that was unusual. I just wrote an very long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn't appear. Sucks! Anyway, just wanted to say great blog! ReplyDeleteRomney wins, pal, Romney wins.
Voter ID now!!!! Let's insure a correct voting total.

Brilliant Danny. So we should all have to show a photo ID before we exercise our right to free speech.
ReplyDeleteWe should make the rules all consistent, don't you think??
ReplyDeleteIt just goes to show how the law makers read differences even in God given Human Rights.
I didn't fill any paperwork when they handed me a rifle in the service.
I think they should test all posters for a sanity test before posting here.LOL!!

ReplyDeleteYes, preventing the dead and fraudulent.

I'd rather they be proactive than reactionary on this one, Bob. Keep trolling out the talking points.
ReplyDeleteJake - Didn't see that, but did you see today's Paterno cartoon in the Times? Lets see if Gil posts it on Spencerblog next Friday.
ReplyDeleteSteve - This is reactionary. Its the Republicans reaction to their fear that they can't win this election without stacking the deck.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't disagree more. Proactive all the way. Common sense, feels good to see something like this go through.

ReplyDeleteNo, I've been questioning why they don't check ID for years, but thank you for taking arrogant assumptions on my part.
