The Wallingford Swarthmore girls soccer team will look ridiculous next season.
And it just goes to show how little WSSD cares about boys.
UPDATE:
It could be worse.
UPDATE II: You should definitely wear a helmet while doing this...

I don’t usually agree with Mr. Spencer, but this has to be a joke. A few points:
ReplyDelete1) Headgear doesn’t reduce concussions:
http://rockcenter.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/04/12052348-girl-soccer-players-turn-to-head-gear-to-curb-concussions-but-does-it-work?lite
2) Arms races never work no matter if one is dealing with nuclear weapons or athletic gear. All increased “technology” and “protection” does is increase reckless behavior. Universal headgear in soccer will encourage these players to launch themselves into each other like Brian Dawkins knocking out that loser Ike Hilliard from the Giants.
Maybe they can use their hot glue gun and make them pretty?

Lawyers will sue...
Will the WSSD allow their soccer players to now use their hands, since they won't be able to effectively head the ball wearing that BCH?
ReplyDeleteThankfully those who begin to play women's soccer in the WSSD beginning this season, meaning only the new players as sophomores, who will be required to wear the new protective headgear, will not 25 years later to claim damages caused by the WSSD allowing them to play soccer without the new protective headgear. But wouldn't it possibly be cheaper in the short term, due to the costs of the sport of women's soccer and the cost of the new headgear, and in the long term due to the potential of lawsuits arising from the protecitve headgear not having protected the players, to just do away with the sport of woment's soccer?
