Beard Wars

Making a federal hate-crimes case out of an intra-sect religious spat. This sounds like a simple assault case. Maybe throw in a couple of harassment or terrorist threats charges. But a hate crime?

Is it a hate crime when an Amish community shuns on of their own?
Is it a hate crime when the Catholic church denies communion to a pro-abortion politician?
Is it a hate crime when a black person shoots another black person for playin' the dozens?

It appears to me that the current state of presidential campaigns in the USofA has adopted the Dozens model: "The Dozens is a contest of personal power: wit, self-control, verbal ability, mental acuity, and toughness."

The SPAM is getting out of control..

My thought is that HATE crimes should be abolished. A crime is a crime. There should be no additional penalty for hate. If the laws on crime are not strict enough, increase the time, but adding HATE is stupid.

If I fight a kid in the school yard as a 10 years old and he happens to be Catholic, they press additional charges. My feeling is that we have moved away from a Justice System and moved further towards a legal system. (To many lawyers in elected positions)
