The Chicago teacher's strike is a disgrace. I would call this awful woman a public sector parasite, but by the looks of her, she long ago consumed her host.
Come to think of it, maybe that is an accurate reflection of the teacher's pay and benefits, versus the poor residents stuck with paying them.
The video makes it clear: The Chicago teachers, who have allowed this woman to be their leader, are not very intelligent. Just saying. What a sad, sad representation of so-called leadership.

The Wall Street Journal reports that US teachers average 1913 hours of work per year vs. 1932 for the average full time worker. Add in that US teachers spend more hours on direct instruction with students than any other nation's teachers.

Teaching, as a career, is certainly not without perks. Working with a safety net is an equitable trade-off for never earning the type of top end salaries that professionals with similar qualifications earn. But to treat it as parasitism or to describe the pay/benefits as bloated is innaccurate.

Chicago teachers make 90+K, they don't pay anything for benefits and can retire with 80% of their pay after 25 years. There is no defense for that.
I'm okay with your statistics, Mike, except that they don't apply to the Chicago teachers. Perhaps national averages are not a good measure of what is happening in the Windy City. So sad that the safety net which the unions impose is that the kids are denied having bad teachers fired because of that there safety net. Teachers choose to be teachers knowing what the salary scales are for their versus other professions. They are more than welcome to go into the real world and compete in a different profession if that is what they want to do in order to earn (yes earn) a higher salary.
This is a crystal clear example why parents need to be actively involved in the education of their children.
