Name That Team

The owners of the new pro soccer team in Chester are going to have a contest to name the franchise.

My editor has suggested The Chester Sun (for the old Sun Ship connection) and Chester United (you know like Manchester United? Oh, you don't know!)

Since those both stin... I mean, are brilliant, but probably won't fly, feel free to come up with your own suggestion.

Below I suggested the Pa. Taxpayer Screw Jobs, but I doubt that will fly either.

Any suggestions?

Mrs. Spencerblog likes The Whiz. Not bad.

The team name should honor delco favorites such as Media's Frank Daly and Dave Diano - "The Jackasses". I was ready to throw Bam Margera in there for the strength of name, but remembered that he lives in West Chester...

I heard some good ones over the radio, and have to agree that Philadelphia doesn't necessarily need to be in the name. How about Delaware Valley FC or DelVal FC?

How about the Delaware River Rats or River Snakes.

Trouble with the Whiz is that it's too easy to get crude with in headlines:

As in: NEW YORK TAKES WHIZ

Randal,

Kinda funny.
But one question:
Did you once get beat up by a person of color?

I get robbed by them every time more of my money gets dumped into that ungrateful black hole.

Didn’t you once write that we should just forget about Chester and let it die the way we used to old cowboy ghost towns out west?

Will there be convenient blue signs on every block and every turn directing you right into the garage of the stadium similar to Harrah's so tht you don't get lost in a bad neighborhood?

How about the Chester Blues? It would honor those dependable signs as well as the casino's blue hair patrons!

It’s like going to the Tweeter Center over in Camden… or to the Bahamas… Sure, the hotel and beach are beautiful, but the 18 foot high fence and the armed military guards kinda make ya wonder just what lies beyond that they are protecting you from?

Everything we read about Chester’s “revival” is overly concerned with manipulating the city’s image. Crap. First get a hold of the crime problem and the image will take care of itself. Don’t be intentionally distorting the image just to lure unsuspecting prey down there to spend their money.

Yeah, well, Repubs make mistakes sometimes too. But as is the case here, the R’s are usually all about economic investment while the apologists, er, I mean… the LibDems are all about the social ramifications for their favorite victim group.

I haven’t heard anything yet but how much ya wanna bet that in the Daily Times informal contest to name this team folks from Chester have asserted their blackness and demanded that the team’s name somehow reflect the racial makeup of that city? And they no doubt have employed racial “pride” and tired civil rights tones in their efforts to justify such a racial grab.
It’s a fair assumption considering how everything out of Chester gets the racial treatment by folks there consumed by race. It really gets old. We never hear residents of whiter towns making such ugly racial noise.
Why does anyone pay any mind to anything such bitter people have to say? They should be dismissed. No sense making their problem our problem.
And why does anyone even ask the NAACP what it thinks about, well, anything? After all, we never see our local Lib Media asking the KKK what they think about projects in whiter towns.

Hey R:

How about the name:

Chester Brothers, Chester Sisters, Chester Homies, Chester Boos, oh this is fun. Before I sign off, what about Sharpton's Sharpies, Jackson's Justice...
