George Will on Obama's brilliant economic team:
"In his wise book "Capitalism, Democracy & Ralph's Pretty Good Grocery," John Mueller, an Ohio State political scientist, notes that John Maynard Keynes's central theme, according to his biographer Robert Skidelsky, was that "the state is wise and the market is stupid." Mueller continues: "Working from that sort of perspective, India's top economists for a generation supported policies of regulation and central control that failed abysmally — leading one of them to lament recently, 'India's misfortune was to have brilliant economists.' " Many of them were educated in Britain, by Keynes's followers. In America today, everyone agrees that the president-elect's economic team is composed of brilliant economists."
Read it all.
so you're saying we should hire Hermaphrodite Polar Bears in lieu of intelligent economists?
ReplyDeleteWell we've seen the effects of Bush's NOT-brilliant economic team.
ReplyDeleteBTW, George Will doesn't offer any suggestions or solutions in his article. He just tosses a lot of chaff that whatever Obama accomplishes, it will be hard to measure (so the right-wing can attribute any successes to something else).
I guess this is why George Will is a political commentator and not an economist with ideas to help.
Hermaphrodite Polar Bears.
ReplyDeleteFinally, I have a new band name.
So, should we refer to you as HPB?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous:
ReplyDeleteObama's new economic team is a collection of Clinton and Carter retreads. Thre is nothing unusual or smart about what they are going to do. They favor government control of large aspects of our economy, and government pretty much sucks at running anything, at least from a profit stand point.
Anon you sound a lot like Diano the Dope. Any relations. Also, has the Bush Administration done anything worthy of any positive recognition?

It does not matter what really happens. The Lying Libs in the Media and the Obama Admin will atribute every success to Obama and every failing will be blamed on Bush. They will say and do anything to see to it that our first Affirmative Action president is viewed as a success. And all critics will be labeled "racists".
ReplyDeleteThe Bush Admin put the final nail in the coffin on conservative economic policies.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Obama supposed to get his economic team, from the Bush administration(s)? Obama's also pulling in people with University and Wall Street backgrounds (so, he's not pulling exclusively from Clinton/Carter). He's picking people that can get the job done and implement his plans.
After 8 years of Bush, it must be a shocking change for someone like you to have a competent president in the White House.
Anon:
ReplyDeleteUniversity and Wall Street backgrounds? Is that a good thing? We know what they teach in the Universities, and we know how Wall Street has handled our money. Bush, despite what you thingk, has a competent economic team that encourages economic growth through private sector economic activity. I don't agree with everything they have done, but it is hard to dispute sustained low interest rates. It is also hard to dispute that the people that Obama is going to target are the ones who invest in our economy.
Now to Obama, what makes you think he is competent? What has he done, other than win this election, that demonstrates competency running anything? At least Bush was a governor and business owner before he became President. What is on Obama's resume?
Has President Bush done anything remotely praise worthy in your eyes?
Lastly, conservative economic policies are the only policies that work in the free market. Understand that as we are socialized and regulated even more and there are massive exportation of our jobs overseas. What will those employees/workers do, perform green jobs that don't exist? I feel the gumdrops starting to fall from the sky now.

"We know what they teach in the Universities"
ReplyDeleteBased on your postings, you would really remove yourself from the "we", as you have NO understanding of what is taught at Universities (beside, maybe, a Bible college).
"despite what you thingk, has a competent economic team that encourages economic growth through private sector economic activity"
Um.. is that also "despite" the economy crashing down around us due to Bush's policies and team?
"It is also hard to dispute that the people that Obama is going to target are the ones who invest in our economy."
Actually, it's easy to dispute. The corporate fat-cats and tax cheats are the ones that have been skimming off our economy. Have corporate jets and golden parachutes helped the workers or gone back as investments in the companies?
Besides the campaign itself, and Obama's prior successes, the transition team has set a new HIGH standard for competence and professionalism.
Bush was a failed oilman and piss-poor businessman. Abilities he carried over to bankrupt the country. Heckuva job, Bushie.
"Lastly, conservative economic policies are the only policies that work in the free market."
Even the formerly god-like Alan Greenspan has abandoned the childish notion that companies will act for the good of the market without regulation.
Maybe while you are busy "praying away the gay", you can try and "pray away the Bush recession". Meanwhile, we wait for the new President to begin the hard work of cleaning up this conservative mess.
It must be really pleasant for you having a mind divorced from reality.
Anon: You really write like Diano the Dope. How on earth can this economic meltdown be Bush's fault when economic policy comes from the House of Representatives per the Constitution. You also know that it was the democrats that controlled Fannie Mae, and prior to 1994, the Dems controlled the House for 40 years. So now we have 2 years of socialist rhetoric coming from Nancy "the Barber Shop" Pelosi, and her partners in crime Reid, Waxman, Schumer, and Frank. What did you expect would happen?
ReplyDeleteDiano, you are so out of touch and in absolute denial. Lastly, what about the Democratic Gov from Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, and his attempt to sell Obama's senate seat, and other bribery charges. Was Bush behind this too? This is just the beginning.
Has the Bush Administration done anything that is praise worthy?
