Almost!

Almost the greatest comeback in league championship playoff history.

Almost.

At least, that's what Joe Buck said when the Eagles were down 18 points at the end of the first half.

The Indianopolis Colts rallied from 18 down. The Eagles almost did the same thing, taking the lead in the the 4th quarter.

Then after a gutty drive by Arizona's Kurt Warner - a Cinderella Man if there ever was one - the Birds had one last chance but their drive stalled just past midfield.

It was crazy game. An exciting game. A heartbreaking game for Eagles fans.

Some will say, once again, a Donovan McNabb/Andy Reid team finished in failure. That's one way of looking at it. But it's a pretty narrow way of looking at a team that gave its fans and themselves these last three weeks.

A huge win over the Cowboys to get into the playoffs. And then two playoff wins, one over the hated NY Giants at the Meadowlands.

Yesterday's game summed up their nutty, painful but exciting season. Gamely, coming from behind, only to come up empty at the very end.

You can ask more of a team, but not much more.

UPDATE: Quintin Demps cheapshot against Warner at the end of the first half was just that. Cheap. He should have been thrown out of the game.

Demps played like a rookie. Gave up that TD to Fitzgerald on the flicker by Warner, cheap shot on Warner, missed tackle on HIghtower that led to the Go Ahead. Very disappointing.

Critricize Donovan all yo uwant, but I'm not blaming him for this one. The man got us the lead and was asked to make a second miracle with receivers looking for flags in lieu of footballs. The defense, for a change, gets the blame here - they gave up a 14-play, 7 minute drive that led in the go-ahead TD to seal our fate.

Amazing - 1-4 in NFC championship games. Downright depressing.

Between hearing Howard Eskin' Predictions on Sportsfinal and my own opinions, here's what happens in the offseason:

McNabb - Returns (Good)
Reid - Returns (Still wish he would lose player personnel duties)
Runyan - gone
Dawkins - returns (Retires with the wings)
LJ Smith - GONE
Reggie BRown - GONE
Buckhalter - gone (Replace with big back)

I think we may trade both 1st round picks to move up. I predict we draft a new OT, possibly Runyan's replacement. Not a sexdy pick, but this year I believe it's necessary. Th defense will still be good and will learn from this game - the offense needs work, and it starts with a good OL.

OK, Last paragraph - i meant to say "sexy". How on earth did my fingers manage to place a "d" in "sexy"? Wait, am I allowed to post the word "sexy" on spencerblog? Can I state "sexy" when it comes to an offensive lineman? Will C. Scott claim that I'm making homosexual remarks, will diano claim I've come over to the left? Will randal change the subject and go into race relations depending on the race of said "sexy" offensive lineman? Or will spencerblog delete this post as I am sorta insulting everyone in a backwards kind of way?

nevermind, this is a sports related post, it's kryptonite to the others! Gil, let's insult the others here, they'll never take the time to read the comments! Let me start with bob...
