Murtha Update

Murtha buddy and big contributor has his offices raided by the FBI.

It's probably nothing. The FBI raided Charlie Sexton's and Curt Weldon's daughter's home two weeks before an election and more than two years ago. No charges have been brought.

But it makes you wonder why the feds waited until two months AFTER Murtha's tough reelection bid to conduct the politically sensitive raid and conducted the Weldon raid two weeks BEFORE his reelection bid.

Murtha is no stranger to controversy. He falsely accused U.S. Marines of murder in Iraq and is now being sued for slander.

His ties to lobbyists are legendary and he's one of the biggest pork eaters in Congress.

Most recently he suggested he would welcome the suspected terrorists at Guantanamo to be housed in his home district. He might want to check with his constituents on that one.

And they haven't been cleared of wrong-doing either.
Weldon got raided because there was a leak (or tip-off) about the wiretaps and the FBI had to move quickly to prevent them from shredding evidence.

"And they haven't been cleared of wrong doing either."

Spoken like a true civil libertarian and defender of all things anti-Republican.

I believe as a matter of policy the FBI doesn't call press conferences to "clear" people if they don't have the evidence to bring a case to trial.

As for Murtha... no comment.

Actually, the FBI cleared people publicly in the past for high-profile cases. But, more relevant (and you always ignore the relevant points), the case hasn't been dropped.

And even if they do drop the case, it would not change the actual guilt (or HIGHLY unlikely innocence) of Weldon and Sexton, but just be another example of people slipping through the cracks.

I would be shocked if months of wiretaps of those two didn't yield the same type of stuff Blagovich did (but at a district-size scale) on an almost daily basis.

clearly the republican controlled FBI was biased in favor of democrats John Murtha and Joe Sestak and against Curt Weldon and whoever it was that ran for Murtha's seat. GET REAL GIL.

Any prosecution or investigation of a Republican is not only fine with Diano, he assumes guilt.

Any investigation of a Democrat - and one who has been on tape entertaining a bribe sometime in the future - well, that's hardly worth commmenting on.

Keep defending Weldon and Sexton and your other local Delco GOP pals.
Why don't YOU run for office and see all the corruption and bribery that comes knocking on your door?

It's just wrong that an innocent man, a public figure with a distinguished record of service to our community, was made to suffer public humiliation and now, over two years later, still no charges have been brought.

How can anybody whine about injustice and the treatment of terrorists when such a travesty took place in our own back yard?

Maybe its time for Murtha to go. I don't have a problem with that. I dont care what party you belong to. If you're crooked, you should be canned. Murtha has done sone good things, but thats no excuse for keeping him on board. He's been an embarassment off and on over the years, and just like Weldon, it's time for him to go. There was a time that I supported Weldon. He did a lot of good things for the county, going all the way back to the days when he waged war on the Bikers in the Hook. But I also believe he used his influence to help his daughter get contracts. He also made a fool of himself by planning private WMD search missions to Iraq. I say good riddance to both of them.

Bob:

Good for you - If you are crooked you should be canned! Now, what about Geithner? He should be canned too because his tax indiscretions disqualify him from employment in the IRS and even the Justice Department. What sayeth you Baaahb? If you agree, which would be an obvious affront to Diano, I will never call you Baaahb again. Promise.

Carter - I agree. I stil dont understand why he has bi-partisan support. Can you explain that to me? I see Bob Byrd voted against him.

Carter - Explain this to me
"There were 10 Republican votes in favor of Geithner, including Sens. John Cornyn, R-Texas, a member of the party's leadership, and Judd Gregg, R-N.H., the ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee."
