Gil - Does Krauthammer really have the ability to know what's really taking place with regards to American involvment in Iran? Do any of us? Our country has a history of clandestine CIA involvement in the overthrow, and attempted overthrow of foreign governments. For all we know, the CIA could have had a hand in the recent demonstrations in Iran. With Obama's OK. And to those who are critical of Obama's willingness to meet with his adversaries, they should remember that the last really good Republican president, Eisenhower, said that he would meet with anyone at any time in the name of peace. He met in Geneva with the Soviets depite the protests of the hard line, right wing members of his own party.
If your speculation about covert operations is as far-fetched as your analysis of Republican presidents, then Krauthammer's concern aren't nearly as worrisome as they should be.
Jake - My speculation about covert operations is far fetched? On what planet do you live? Remember. We always seem to find out "the rest of the story" years after it takes place. How do you think the Shah of Iran got into power? Covert operations overthrew Mossadegh.
Hawaii, Cuba, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Philippines, Honduras, Iran, Guatamala, Chile, Vietnam. The list goes on. Jake, you would be surprised to find out that we have covert operations taking place in Iran? Are you kidding? And what Republican president in your lifetime has been as popular or as competent as Eisenhower?
