CORRECTION

Newtown's Jim Stefanides writes in to say:
FYI: I was told you have made the above comment in your "opinion" rants before. The fact is "I was NOT Linda Houldins campaign manager." Her husband John Houldin was her campaign manager.

Please refrain from using my name in any of your "opinion" pieces in the future, especially when your opinion is an outright lie!
I stand corrected.

But there is a rather large difference between an "outright lie" and a mistake. A "lie" requires an intent to deceive. I was misinformed about Stefanides' role in Houldin's campaign. Seeing him at her side on primary day may have re-enforced that misapprehension. I apologize for the error.

However, the insulting tone of Jim's note suggests he feels abused by what I wrote. He should know that if I wanted to hurtful in writing about him, I might have mentioned his documented run-ins with the law and his history of thuggish behavior toward others. I "refrained" from doing so. As they say, no good deed goes unpunished.

No correction is necessary. In a local election, the title of campaign manager is mostly honorary, anyway. You were making clear to your readers that Houldin and Stefanides were political allies, and that characterization was entirely accurate.

If the only criticism this numbskull can come up with is that you attributed a modestly more active role to him than was the case, then you're doing a pretty fair job of reporting.

I say "Rant on, Gil".

For all intents and purposes Jimbo was her campaign manager. He circulated her nominating petitions, he distributed her signs, he had his friends remove the firelinda signs from the telephone poles. He is the one who emailed a computer virus to firelinda.com.

Gil- No need to apologize for the misunderstanding. It happens all the time to Jim.

It was probably just a misunderstanding when he headbutted his baby momma so hard it knocked her out. He was really just trying to give her a gentle kiss on the forehead.

It was probably a misunderstanding when Jim told Manny "I'm gonna blow your head off". Maybe he just finally realized that he could no longer fight the strange urges he'd been having since puberty.

That doesn't explain the 9mm he was pointing at Manny's head though.

Mr. Stefanides is clearly a person worthy of the nickname of Jimbo... As in "Jim's a dumbo.
If he isn't a dumb-dumbo, why would he have written to you demanding you cease referring to him as Ms. Houldin's campaign manager? Perhaps it made him feel more manly to deny his role in her defeat? He obviously sees himself as a future leader in Newtown in attempting to clear his good [?] name. Clearly, Hell hath no fury like a would-a-have-been appointee scorned...
