Obama: Vast Majority of Americans Want Higher Taxes
Obama: 80 percent of Americans are on his side and for higher taxes... just not on themselves. They want them to be paid by other people. You know, "the rich." Go figure.

If I remember right, the wealthy were given tax breaks by Bush, and these tax breaks were set to expire, so are they really tax increases? They were supposed to improve the economy, but that didn't work to well for Bush, so what makes anyone think that it will work now?
OK, please place me on the side that says I pay enough. No more taxes.
And someone explain to me how when Obama says tax the millionaires and billionaires, how that includes married couples making over $250,000.00? Call me crazy, but 2 people working and making 250,000 dollars are not the folks one imagines as being living like Jed Clampett in Beverly Hills.
Dan, the tax breaks initiated during by the Bush administration had an expiration date. Is there any reason why that shouldn't be honored?
Under George W. Bush’s “tax cuts for the rich” the rich paid more in taxes in 2005 than any time in the prior 20 years. In fact, as the Wall Street Journal noted, "thanks to George W. Bush’s tax cuts for the rich, the richest one percent went from paying 25% of all income taxes in 1990 to 39% in 2005. The richest 5% went from paying 44% of all income taxes in 1990 to paying 60% of all income taxes in 2005."
Some of the reasons for the collapse? Massive new regulations(my wife is a CPA) in Sarbanes-Oxley and the continuing incursion of the government via Fannie and Freddie into private lending markets forcing private lenders to launch risky ventures to stay profitable which led to a lot of schemes collapsing in on themselves and taking the economy out too.
So no, I would not roll back, if anything I would start by giving the people with more money reason to spend more/hire more/earn more. No one wants to give their money to the government.
Dan,from the NY Times -"though tax cuts for the rich were bigger than those for other groups, the wealthiest families paid a bigger share of total taxes. That is because their incomes have climbed far more rapidly, and the gap between rich and poor has widened in the last several years." Aren't you pushing the old trickle down theory? It didn't work in the past. What makes you think it will work now? The rich have had these tax breaks for a long time now. Have they been spending more and hiring more? I wish they were!
Dan - You say "no one wants to give their money to the government." Thats like saying nobody wants trash collection, public schools, police, a military, social security, elections, etc. I'm sure you get my point. In reality, most people do want to give a portion of their paycheck to the government. Despite all of the every day pissing and moaning, this government is a pretty amazing thing.
The sad thing is that "Obama: Vast Majority of Americans Want Higher Taxes" was not in the posting of the Friday Funnies... Because it is a real laugher. One has to question whether there has ever been an American president so out of touch with We the People? Even Jimmy Carter, widely recognized as the worst president in recent history had some semblance of understanding of the difficulties the country faced. This guy just does not have a clue...

He reminded me at times of Master Po in the 1970s TV series Kung Fu because of the way he would sometimes make a statement intended to be a thought provoker.
