The President has kids and he wanted them to have a special night! I'm OK with this!! Not sure I wouldn't have done the same thing with my kids! (Not that I would ever be President!)

You sound like Occupation Wonderland. I'm a complete sucker for kids, but I'm spending my money, not the taxpayers'.
You can be sure if this expense was reasonable and legitimate, the Obamas and their partisan hacks would be crowing about their contribution to the arts.
The coverup just confirms their frivolous sense of entitlement.
I have over 100 reason that I want this guy to never be president again. I sure can easily say, him spoiling his kids, even at my expense, is not one of them. Solydra, GM, Fast and Furious, Obama care, all are fair game IMHO. Leave the man alone to spend time with his kids. He is the President of the US, the cost of this party is miniscule!

Jake - Danny nailed this one. It was kept low key because they knew that people like you, who refuse to give Obama credit for anything good, would throw a hissy fit. Obama wanted to do something nice for his kid's and the children of military personel.

I don't appreciate the connotation implicit to "people like me". Can we now expect every difference of opinion to be reduced to race-baiting?
Obama was clearly exercising poor judgment, and the cost of his obtuseness is just a matter of scale. It's the same poor judgment and arrogance that has resulted in Solyndra, Fast and Furious, Obamacare, etc.
Why would the "most transparent administration in history"? need to coverup such a minor event?
If you're spending taxpayer's money, disclose and defend the costs honestly. What is so hard to understand about integrity over political calculation?

Yes we can Jake. If you constantly and erroneously insert race into every argument.
Just for jake, I'm going to pull a Gil and quote Frank J:

This was an event for local school children from the Washington DC area and for hundreds of military families.
The press was allowed to attend, which in itself would seem to cast doubt on any alleged secrecy. In addition, the event was previewed in the official White House Daily Guidance and discussed by then-Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on camera from the podium -- before he dressed up as Darth Vader. The White House released videos and photos of the event on whitehouse.gov and their Flickr account, hardly the actions of a conspiratorial cover-up.
