The Slumdog Riots

No good deed (or good movie) goes unpunished.

Some in India are protesting Golden Globe winner "Slumdog Millionaire" for popularizing the term Slumdogs. And rioting too.

"Referring to people living in slums as dogs is a violation of human rights," said Mr Vishwakarma, who works for a group promoting the rights of slum dwellers.

Being called a name is a human rights violation? What about calling the place where they live a "slum"? That's not very nice.

Ironic, that the movie makes actually makes heroes out of the people called "Slumdogs" by their supposed betters.

BTW, we've seen the film and it's terrific. Fun, entertaining and set in a part of the world too few westerners see.

Too bad a handful of rabble rousers have managed to misunderstand the film's intentions and adopted the very western strategy of appearing victimized for their own aggrandizement and agendas.
