Almost Live At the AT&Tiger

I watched Tiger hit his tee ball on 10 in the first round. After both Davis Love III and Dustin Johnson blew their shots right, Tiger hit a light draw that turned left straight down the fairway, leaving himself a shot shot to a hard green.

Love would make a disastrous triple bogie on the hole, chunking a wedge trying to carry it over one of the mounds that protect the green. He three putted from there.

During the Pro-Am, Newtown Square real estate guy George Spaeder had the same shot up the hill. He took out a wedge. Then, on the advice on of some buttinski in the crowd changed to a putter. He ran it up the hill onto the green to with 10 feet of the hole.

Let that be a lesson to you, Davis.

At Tuesday night's cocktail party and drawing for pros was hosted by former Eagles QB Ron Jaworski, who by all accounts did a fine job. Participants who coughed up the $8,500 entrance fee had their names put into a computer. When their name came up they had 30 seconds to pick a pro to play with.

As Jaws explained the rules, if they exceeded the 30-second time limit they'd be forced to play with Charles Barkley.

Jaworski's Pro-Am partner was Joe Ogilvie, who is tied for the lead in the tournament.

An early selectee was Vijay Singh. I watched him and his partners play 17, the long and tough par 3. Vijay came up short. Hit another shot and blew it left. Two of his amateurs hit the green.

The last, a young-looking man in loud shorts, hit a skank slice into the pond. His third shot was a nifty wedge to within 8 feet, but he missed the putt for his bogey. I didn't figure it out 'til later. But his name was John Bongiovi.

More on Wednesday's AT&Tiger Pro-Am can be found in today's print column.
