Give That Man a Solygraph

Maybe because it was made at Solyndra headquarters. Time to break out  the Algae-Powered Truth Dispenser.

Gil - Are these the same panels that were removed by Reagan in 1981? As per our conversation, some clarity on the gas crisis caused by OPEC. The first was during the Nixon administration in 1973, the second under Carter in 1979. After doing some research, I still believe the facts support my argument that we could be 12 years, if not more, ahead of where we are now had Reagan followed Carters lead on conservation and research on alternative fuel sources.

The Carter administration made a serious effort for energy conservation and energy independence (sometimes acting under authority of laws enacted during the Ford and Nixon administrations). Fuel efficiency standards for cars were increased and incentives were provided for insulating buildings. Ambitious research program on solar and other alternative energy sources were launched. Large industrial companies such as Kodak and Xerox voluntarily launched their own energy conservation programs parallel to what the government was doing.

We benefit from the accomplishments of the Carter era to this day. We would benefit even more if governmental policy had continued on the same path. But Reagan planted this idea that conservation is unmanly, alternative energy is a fad and the supply of oil will take care of itself. I can still remember him removing the solar panels from the White House. And when you read todays papers, it's obvious that after 40 yrs., we're still held hostage by our dependence on oil.

and after 40 years, I'd still rather be dependant on our own oil than foreign interests.

Maybe Reagan took the silly Carter solar panels down because Republicans appreciate the value of a dollar.
Not then, and still today, even as Obama has pushed energy prices higher and higher, solar power is not financially viable.
Wind, algae, the Volt, all cannot stand on their own merits without government subsidy.
That's why we need someone with financial sense in the White House. Time to send the community activist on permanent vacation.
